This is a pretty fascinating discussion on recent events and the use of Twitter in Iran.

Iran changing?

June 15th, 2009

It is absoultely amazing what’s been happening in Iran in the past couple of days – from what we’re hearing in thh news right now, the city of Tehran is still in turmoil and it’s past 4am there!

Here are a few links with up-to-date news/pictures from Iran:

Let’s hope for a real change there and no more killings… Is that possible?

A new book by Neil Postman, comparing George Orwell’s version of the future in “1984” with Aldous Huxley’s version in “A brave new World”:

What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism.

You can find more info alongside some great comic style drawings here.

Even though I haven’t read the book yet, it’s safe to say that the worst of both of those author’s visions may have come true!

Earlier tonight I watched a documentary by Alex Jones, the American film maker/talk show host. The film is called The Obama Deception and explains that the new president is pretty much a puppet taking orders from Wall Street (the banks).

Lots of people would dismiss Alex Jones and other info warriors and label them conspiracy theory nut-heads but I more or less agree with the facts presented in this movie although some of it is very hard to swallow. Also, seeing Mr Jones raving on for parts of the movie is a little off-putting – I’m not being disrespectful but it’s a just too much hearing him shout at the Bilderberg members through a megaphone for 5 minutes.

After watching the movie, I decided to make a mp3 mix while I was a little inspired by the whole Obama thing. I started with a beautiful track by Nina Simone followed by some Dub, D&B and rock tracks. The music then moves on to some funky techno.

The beat matching of the dance tracks is not great (I haven’t played for almost 3 months – even then I wasn’t that good!) but I do like most of music.

If anyone is interested, I can get a track listing sorted. Hope you enjoy it (click the play button below).

Is this fake or set-up by the CIA? Or does this man really think he’s telling the truth? He seems pretty convinced and backs up his arguments pretty well. I think what he’s saying doesn’t solely apply to the old USSR – it can clearly be said about the actions of the current regime in the USA. Judge for yourselves.

You may know that OS X adds its own additional resource/fork files to its file system.

If you’ve developed an application on a Mac but would like to release it on a Windows or Linux platform, you must get rid of these files.

To do so use the following line to tar your application:

COPYFILE_DISABLE=true tar -cvf YourTarFileName.tar DirectoryToTar/

Want to learn about GIT? There’s tonnes of stuff out there but a very good introduction to GIT is called Git for the Lazy and it is simply priceless (if you’re into that sort of thing).

History of Palestine

January 25th, 2009

I think in any conflict you need to be 110% impartial in order to help solve the issues which lead to the fighting and suffering. It’s extremely hard to be impartial, specially with the main stream media distorting the facts almost constantly.

I watched part 1 of the lectures by Linda Bevis and Ed Mast titled ‘Palestine for Beginners’ on blip.tv. They seem to be trying to be impartial and teach us some ‘real’ history of the Palestinian/Jewish peoples in that part of the world.

I look forward to seeing the rest of the lecture.
